First you need to understand what skills and capabilities you presently possess. After assessing yourself, you can use the Guide to find out which level of training you should focus on. There are basically 3 levels of training described in this Guide, namely: Basic and Enabling Skills Training

Financial support for training programmes listed in this Guide is provided for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. You can approach the organisations listed in this Guide to apply for the programmes. Financial support for most of these programmes and many others are also available through employers. As an employee, you may want to discuss financial support for relevant training programmes with your employers. However, if you are unemployed or do not have your employer's support, the programmes listed in this guide will be able to assist you.

I am now employed but feel that I am vulnerable to retrenchments. What kind of courses should I take up to boost my employability?
All individuals, whether workers, executives or professionals, should consider if they have the relevant basic skills that are necessary in the workplace. These skills, which include basic working English and Mathematics, as well as basic computer skills and other soft skills are covered under the BEST, WISE, CREST and NITLP programmes.
Besides basic skills, you should also consider if there are job-specific skills that you can pick up to upgrade yourself. You can refer to the course lists under the different programmes to identify possible upgrading opportunities.
Where can I get information on where the employment opportunities are so that I can make the decision on what training course to take up?
If you are considering training to take on a job in a different area, you should look at some of the basic job skills training programmes that will equip you with the skills to enter a new industry. You can also find out more about the skills requirements by talking to NTUC or the self-help groups.
